Re: Kevin Nolan
Correct Sniper. Now we are paying for that decision but against Arsenal he didn't look so bad. He had fresh legs and most everyone else was knackered mind...

I think he'll be looking for another club and a pay-off over the next few weeks...

Re: Kevin Nolan
Wasn't the reason we even got him in the first place because he wanted a 5 year deal and pardew would only give him 2? Pardew had it sussed about how many years he has left at the top level

However he only joined us because of the long contract. So the only reason we had him to score the goals that got us up and kept us up. The next three years were the gamble taken for that to happen. The board knew that.

Nolan on Noble: "I'm tipping him to succeed me as captain...".

Well, I noticed you didn't rush over and snatch the armband off him in the usual unseemly manner when you came on as sub at the Emirates.

So it 's not a 'tip' as such, is it? Somebody has clearly already made the decision on all but name.

31 goals for us, by the way.

Not bad for a centre-half...

You're talking about Noble, right?

If I were to choose any defensive position to play Nolan it would be as keeper.

I'd love to see Nolan play CB for a game (preferably not for us) I think it would be hilarious.

Re: Kevin Nolan
so because bilic wanted oxford to sit in the midfield, between the defence and rest of the midfield, you think that he now wants to play nolan as a CB because nolan replaced him? mate you really are reaching here. as i said earlier, nolan replaced oxford but it was noble who dropped back to do the defensive work in front of the back four, as you would have witnessed by watching the game.

Re: Kevin Nolan
Nolan playing in the number 10 role is a waste of a shirt and why fans were getting on his back. He's not cut out for it. Can't dribble past anyone. (Sorry one player for the entire last season, Payet took on two in one move at Arsenal!) he lacks vision and creativity (as Allardyce admitted in an interview) all he could do is occasionally pop up with an effort based around lumping balls in the box or set pieces. I don't think the fans in the ground are stupid. It's similar to Lampard, who usually got grief only when Eyal was subbed off like he always was, and fans want somebody to unlock a defence,

Bilic played him there in Malta and as spotted by the commentator, told him to go back deeper, and Kouyate pushed up instead. It did only last 5-10 minutes but for me Bilic quickly sussed it out that he's just not any use in the number 10 role.

As it happens since he's gone deeper I don't think he's been too bad. At Arsenal he was calm and composed under pressure and made a contribution to the win.

I don't like him, but only because Allardyce built a side around him where he was clearly woeful at times. I've no problem if he stays and plays deeper like he did at Arsenal.

Trevor B 9:54 Thu Aug 13
Re: Kevin Nolan
perfectly calm mate, no idea why you would thin otherwise.

he replaced oxford and noble went to defensive midfield. again no idea how you are getting him being a possible CB form that. so you're suggesting that if we had 6 recognised Cbs out injured THEN slav might play him there?

No mate, kouyate would slot in.

you've had a shocker here, to be fair.

CALM DOWN
I never said he will play ahead of those players.
But he came on as sub before anyone else to replace Oxford.
I don't want him playing, just trying to read what is going on

Baggins 9:42 Thu Aug 13
Re: Kevin Nolan
If he isnt playing as a goalscoring midfielder he shouldn't be on the pitch.

He certainly cannot play as a defensive midfielder or as a centre half. Too slow, a defensive liability whenever he is in a one on one situation and he gives the ball away when under pressure.

Trevor B 9:38 Thu Aug 13
Re: Kevin Nolan
daveyg

so because nolan is still around you are assuming he may be played at CB? how odd.

he is still around probably for several reasons:

1) he is on 50k and at 33 nobody wants to match that
2) because he is 33 perhaps nobody wants to give him a longer contract to make up for the money lost if he moved and took lower wages
3) he doesnt want to move
4) maybe, just maybe, slav thinks that he could do a job from the bench, as an experience captain, towards the end of games, as he did against arsenal

buy no mate, you're right, none of those are plausible and slav is going to pick him at CB ahead of reid, tomkins and collins, not to mention burke, oford and henry...... ;-)

Re: Kevin Nolan
Experienced West Ham United midfielder Kevin Nolan told the club’s official website that he’s confident teammate Mark Noble will follow him a captain.

Nolan has explained that he wasn’t surprised by the emotional way that Noble celebrated after the final whistle, as the Hammers secured an impressive 2-0 win against Arsenal last weekend on the opening day of the season.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has a very young and exciting team and it will be interesting to see where the likes of Noble and Nolan fit in for the rest of the season.

“I found it quite funny but that is Nobes for you. The lad wears his heart on his sleeve and he is a fantastic boy,” he told whufc.com.

“You could see how much it meant to him and everyone at the football club. We have got to follow that up this week, otherwise it will be a waste.”

“I definitely feel he will be the skipper of this Club and that is who I am tipping to succeed me.”

Do Noble and Nolan have parts to play?

They do but it’s important that Bilic uses them in the right way over the rest of the season.

Re: Kevin Nolan

i know it seems absurd but why is Nolan still around ?

daveyg 9:33 Thu Aug 13
Re: Kevin Nolan
From Bilic's own mouth.

“To talk about Reece now is easy but I don’t want to give lessons. We just put Reece in the team because I wanted to combine this game between him and Kevin Nolan.

“We needed someone to sit there and be a centre-half and not a centre-half, to take the long balls and be good in the air and sit and wait and be ready for Cazorla, Ozil or Ramsey in that space between the lines.
